Description:Piracy off the Somali coast has been a threat to international shipping since the
beginning of Somalia's civil war in the early 1990s, which has rendered almost a third of
the entire population poor. Little has been done by Somali’s coastal guards, while the
international community has not staged any crackdown to halt the crime.
