A24 Media is a proud supporter of 1GOAL. 1GOAL is setting out to achieve Education for All. 75 million children around the world, 33 million of them in Africa, are denied the opportunity to go to school. Unable to read or write, they face a lifetime of poverty. Our Goal is in keeping with the Millennium Development Goals and is civil society advocacy campaign.
FIFA is a supporter of 1GOAL and needs the signatures of millions of football fans and public endorsement from the global football family to present to World Leaders after the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. With this support we have a huge opportunity to create a real legacy for Africa from the next World Cup.
Player endorsement is strong. 1GOAL launched at Wembley and have signed up the likes of Rio Ferdinand, Michael Owen, Michael Carrick, Michael Essien, Stephen Appiah, Nwankwo Kanu, John Utaka, Aaron Mokoena, Thierry Henry and Robinho as well as retired players such as Tony Baffoe, Segun Odegbami, Sir Bobby Charlton, Zinedine Zidane and Alan Shearer.
Africa matters hugely to 1GOAL. Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola has backed the campaign, while President Zuma and President Mills were part of a Global Sign Up day where world leaders all gave their public backing to 1GOAL. The day also included Hillary Clinton, UK premier Gordon Brown as well as the Heads of State of Spain, Australia and the Netherlands and Ban Ki Moon, the UN Secretary General.
A24 Media has added our voice to the 1GOAL Campaign and is assisting to distribute PSAs that push the goal of Education for All. A24's mandate has always been to improve the future of the children of Africa and we ask our brothers and sisters at African broadcasters around the Continent to join us in support of 1GOAL. Let us use the current African Cup of Nations tournament in Angola to kickstart the campaign and use football to bring hope to the children of Africa.
